Pillar & Plough @ The Hotel Williamsburg:
Drinking in a hotel is synonymous with cosmopolitan elegance—even when said hotel is in lodged between a stalled housing project and the infamous Turkey’s Nest. Sunk into the bottom of the uber-hip Manhattan getaway, the boutique Hotel Williamsburg, this high-ceilinged restaurant and bar features an open kitchen ideal for ogling the chefs cooking American haute cuisine before they personally deliver it to your table. The menu is divided by portion size, bluntly put: "Snacks" like tater tots with paprika cream ($8), “Whole Animals and Primal Cuts" like prime rib (perfect for sharing, $32) or one-person "Dishes" like habanero pork belly ($18). A solid wine list and clever cocktails like the tequila and mezcal “Hasty Conquest” ($11) round out the meal as does a doozy of a dessert menu. It’s swank, it’s hip, and if you booze too much—you can always get a room.
