Plum Pizzeria and Bar:
Dinner and drinks for a large crowd is always a challenge in NYC—often you have to sacrifice either your palate or your wallet, or (wipe a tear) both. Which is why it’s not surprising that big groups are quickly filling the wooden tables at Plum Pizzeria. The décor is simple but warm with classic Italian photos lining the brick walls. The mirrored bar area is large enough to meet for cocktails (try the Plum Punch Royale—Myers Dark Rum, Veuve Cliquot, Remy Martin, simple syrup and sour mix, $15), though most patrons only use it as a stopover until their tables are ready. The affordable menu features surprisingly varied cuisine for a pizzeria, and everything is served in either individual or family-sized portions (cue large parties) with added bonuses like homemade mozzarella and gluten-free crust. For the perfect pairing, check out their wine list, which offers a huge selection of wines by the glass ($8-$13). But with bottles starting at just $23 you might as well go for broke (only not literally for a change!).
