Plunge @ Hotel Gansevoort: How do you mess up a rooftop lounge? Put it in the Meatpacking District and charge nearly $20 for mediocre drinks and $12+ for cover, and you’re well on your way. Get past the ironic name, and this space seems like a good idea: a pool, indoor/outdoor seating, and an unobstructed panoramic view add up to a cool place for a night on—or over—the town. The crowd, however, is straight out of “Sex and the City,” and we’ve all seen that show too many times. Impressive as the nouveau Hotel Gansevoort may be, they just haven’t figured out the hotel bar scene, as further evidenced by the well-designed yet vibe-less Garden of Ono, 13 floors below. Should the opportunity arise to attend a private party here, jump on it. There are better ways to spend a regular night on the town. |
