Point Break: Swayze told us, "If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price." Though these words of wisdom are displayed on the staircase of Point Break, they don't ring true: This is a bar where post-collegiate Midtowners gather after work for cheap drinks, Tex-Mex eats and an easy thrill after a rough day. The bar (formerly known as Nation) offers all the gimmicks that make a Midtown bar great: beer pong tables, a $5 shot wheel, $25 Das Boots, scorpion bowls galore, and even a wall of shame for late-night photo-ops. The surf theme is half-assed, but boogie boards and oversized flip-flops contribute to the escapist vibe as much as the flashing lights and bumpin' Top 40 hits. The tri-level bar gets packed during the week, but be wary of a weekend excursion as the bar is often closed for private parties. Come to think of it, maybe you will pay the ultimate price at Point Break. It won’t be in cash form, but more likely via blood alcohol level and regrettable performances in the mixed company of co-workers. |
