Pok Pok Wing:
Don't expect to have any personal space honored at Pok Pok Wing in the LES—this lilliputian place only offers counter service for 15 people max and take-out. You’ll get more elbows trying to place your order than you will wings on your plate. But as cramped as the space is, the vibe is still kickin’ with Portland, OR influences as an ode to where owner Andy Ricker started his heat-seeking adventures. The wall art, exposed brick and color scheme invoke a fresh first-generation American meets old-world Asia feel. Indecisive? Don't worry because you only have to choose from Ike's Wings ($12.50), which are marinated then deep fried and tossed in caramelized Phu Quoc fish sauce and garlic, Pok Pok Papaya Salad ($8.50) or a side of sticky rice ($2). To extinguish your palette, they offer the Pok Pok Som Drinking Vinegar ($4) in honey, apple, pomegranate and tamarind, but a liquor license is still to come. The spot's only open 5pm to midnight daily, so put on your Converse and submerge yourself below street level to fight for your right to eat wings.
