In a city not hurting for burger joints (have we reached 20 Shake Shacks yet?), one more is breaking onto the scene. From the man who brought you Pop Burger—arguably the original place for a party with your patty—comes Pop Pub. You’ll recognize the order counter (red this time) scrawled with words like “firm fries” and “creamy shakes” as well as Warhol-inspired art, but the space has a distinctly less lounge-like feel. Decked in wood as a nod to more traditional beer halls, the venue finds late-night revelers downing suds served in boot-shaped steins as they sit on wooden banquettes and in leather chairs at communal tables. You may have had a Black and Tan elsewhere, but Pop Pub’s “beer cocktail” menu includes a Black Velvet (Guinness and champagne, $8) and a Guinness Milkshake (Guinness and vanilla ice cream, $8). They’re also serving breakfast (French Toast Sticks, anyone?), though you’ll have to get up early after last night’s fun and bear the sunlight streaming through the large front windows. Not to worry—a shot of espresso and a blaring Talking Heads song should wake you right up.
