Post Office:
Just arrived in South Williamsburg, sent express mail from South Carolina: over 30 kinds of whiskey (priced $2-20), to-die-for pulled pork sandwiches ($6), and the first deviled eggs in history that top your mama's. It's all served up by scruffy Southern bartenders in this quaint bar/restaurant, whose punched-tin ceilings and tabletops, and US Postal Service wallpaper give the space a cozy General Store feel. Not a full-on restaurant, Post Office's munchie menu is there to provide company to your spirits, but the savory snacks like grilled cheese sandwiches ($6), the aforementioned pork and eggs, and a pickle plate provide a justifiable reason to swing by in their own right. The vibe is authentically down-home without needing to rely on kitsch—a place for grown-ups who order it neat, not in shot glasses with a pickleback. And with only 40 seats, the knowledgeable servers can take the time to explain just what the heck makes that tipple so tasty. Now if only you could get this kind of service at your local post office.
