Provocateur:
This new lounge/club at the foot of the Gansevoort touts itself as “The Heart of International Nightlife." A provocative statement indeed, but—despite the overpriced, pretentious disaster inferred by said statement—this decadent lounge/club almost pulls it off. Opened by the duo responsible for Stereo (and designed with help from the infamous guru of Zen venue chic, Lionel Ohayon of the W Hotels), Provocateur encompasses the outdoor garden and lounge of the former Garden of Ono, newly equipped for year-round pleasure. This is because this garden (of "oh yeah?") is open rain or shine, thanks to a newly added fancy glass roof (retractable tops are all the rage, you know). That’s not the only addition (one glance at the luminescent pair of angel wings juxtaposed behind a black catwalk proves that.) But, if you liked things better the old way, you'll be glad to know the cocktails are still overpriced, fruity club-goers still dance badly (think fists a-pumpin'), and bottle service is still the only secure means of entry. This is no empty provocation.

Snooty to the extremes
I agree with everything the above comment by hotel owner. I went in with 3 female friends and they charged us $5k for a table and on top of that the doorwoman still had the nerves to have us wait a little. She is clearly a snob just like the rest of management. Yet when the doorwoman saw any guy who clearly looks like money, she was acting like a typical golddigging russian trying to get laid by the morning. Whatever, the place was cool but clearly not worth my 5K. Never again.

This facility was designed beautifully, the strucutre that encompasses this nightclub will be a hit mostly that it opens and closes from what we were told. This hit will be with the NEXT owners..I was very unempressed with their style of service, cost of goods and how they insulted many people with their "studio 54" mentality. Obvioulsy when I was waiting to get in as a guest to an associate I saw many people be turned away and of course it was clearly obvious. Its basically no different at the Provacteur than it was in the 50's when african americans had to enter from their own door or sit in the back of the bus..Clearly they are trying to establish this place into a "snooty" and "who you are" kind of club..Funny how I have as much money as any movie actor and I still found this place to be so classless that I would rtather be at Hooters....
