If you're the type that likes to stay abreast of all your neighborhood openings, then you may get a case of déjà vu walking into the latest reincarnation at 5 Front Street, just under the Brooklyn Bridge. Pub One opened a mere two weeks after the extremely short-lived Brooklyn Bridge Gardens closed down—just long enough to create a new menu, change the sign...and little else. The décor, spacious patio area and vibe (tourist by day, longtime Brooklyn locals by night) have remained, but the menu scrapped BBG's risky taste combinations and sticks truer to its new name. Burgers are the main event, and the simple-yet-diverse selection hits where the previous menu missed (try the Cuban—beef burger with ham, pulled pork and pickles, $14). The drinks are similarly no-frills and reliable, including standard drafts like Six Point Sweet Action. Pub One's management seems content to correct a mistake of their predecessors by promoting neighborhood camaraderie over touristy yuppiness, so swing by for the game if you can handle the much-encouraged rowdiness.
