Pulino's Bar & Pizzeria: This city owns pizza, so when San Francisco chef Nate Appleman swept into Gotham for a culinary enterprise, it's a good thing he had superstar Keith McNally to hold his (sexily tattooed) hand. The two teamed up and opened Pulino’s Bar & Pizzeria, an Italian restaurant on the Bowery offering Italian delights and a mouth-watering feast of meats. New Yorkers know that everything McNally touches turns to gold, so it’s fitting that the 130-seat space is filled with pretty people, celebs, and foodies eagerly snapping pics with their iPhone between sips of Campari-heavy cocktails and bites of crispy pie. Tiled in red and white, the dining room is cluttered with odd-end table tops and reconstructed police barricades, as the wood-burning-oven crew creates a new species of pizza (thinner crust, hearty toppings, and signature cutting style). The mostly-affordable wine list pays its predictable homage to Italy, while a full bar caters to a younger crowd who normally brunches at Schiller's. And now, to show San Fran how to make burritos...
