Rare Bar & Grill:
Genius! Simply genius! Well, that may be a mild exaggeration, but turning burgers and fries into an art form was a pretty smart move and these guys have done it twice now that Rare has opened in the West Village. (The original is in the Shelburne Hotel.) Appropriately, we’ll start with the appetizers, highlighted by a ginormous three french fry tasting platter. Pair that with the mini-burger trio and that’s a meal onto itself. As good as the starters are, these full-sized beefcakes are not to be missed, especially the amazing M&M Burger, which is flambéed in whiskey and covered in caramelized shallots. Unfortunately that’s as close as you’ll get to hard liquor in this beer and wine joint. On the serious upside, all bottled wines are available by the glass.
