Rare Bar & Grill @ Hilton New York Fashion Dist.: For a restaurant/bar in a hotel called the Fashion 26, it’s a bit shocking to see the design aesthetic of the latest incarnation of the popular Rare burger joint. Occupying the basement level of the hotel, the restaurant features gorgeous high ceilings and a beautiful skylight, so you have to wonder who approved of the barbed-wire theme, which unfortunately gives the space a “chain” vibe it doesn’t deserve. The décor’s really the only miss though as the spacious upstairs bar serves up delicious signature cocktails like the Strawberry Cooler (Bacardi Limon, Cointreau, fresh strawberry purée, lime juice, $12), while the restaurant still boasts some of the best burgers in the city (try their trio of sliders, $15). With a DJ on hand and a fashionable crowd, the design may be run-of-the-mill, but the atmosphere’s still a rare find for the neighborhood. |
