Tucked inside the old Eberhardt Farber Red Star pencil factory, in one of the least (American) sports-oriented neighborhoods in the five boroughs, lies an unsuspecting l'il gem of a sports bar. Sure, Red Star looks unassuming from the outside, but enter and discover a giant red 5000-square foot bi-level sports bar with 11 HD screens. The tin ceilings and walls may be classic factory leftovers, but a menu packed with dishes like hummus and mussels, gives Red Star a modern “upscale” sports bar flavor. If anything, Red Star has become a microcosm of the rapidly diverse Greenpoint/Williamsburg area, bringing together people from all social circles to watch a game or hang with the friendly staff.
