Resorts World Casino: The first reaction to learning that there’s now an operating casino within the five boroughs is, obviously, utter bliss. Unfortunately, Queens’ new World Resorts Casino fails to live up to any Vegas-inspired dreams. Sure, the bright lights and shiny new machines offer some appeal, but you’ll be less entertained when it comes time for your slot-machine snack break: all the restaurants within the venue are still closed, which means you’ll have to settle for food court crap. The main (only?) nightlifery to be had occurs in Bar 360, a circular bar in the middle of the casino, where a mega TV screen (and we mean mega!) will keep you up to date on all that day’s sports games. But don’t expect to get any other play (unless you’re into silver foxes)—folks here tend toward the, er, more mature. We’re crossing our fingers that once this place gets settled in and the venues within start opening up, the casino will attract a younger, hipper crowd and become the Bellagio of Jamaica that we’ve been hoping for. But until then, the trek out of Manhattan just isn’t worth the chance to win a couple of bucks.
