Ryan Maguire’s Ale House:
This ale house is a sleeper hit among Irish pubs. Weepy UK radio welterweights like James Blunt and Coldplay dominate the ambiance at this quiet neighborhood pub, where white-cloth napkin service is casually catered in a dining room. Aside from the complimentary pretzels, those studying bracketology at the bar are treated to hearty, well-priced bar food like split pea soup and onion rings. Disparate service can be slow and reserved one moment, but attentive and friendly the next. The clientele is a challenging cross-section of downtown archetypes: NYU dorm residents sit within spitting distance of down-and-out businessmen.

For food, I had the pasta with sausage special. It was very very good. The rest of the people in the group had burgers and steaks, all of which were great as well. All in all this is a total hidden jewel. Best part - they have brunch on the weekends! Ask for Ryan the manager or a crazy little waitress named Maria. They will make your night
