Salinas: Chelsea is already gordo with Spanish restaurants like Tia Pol, El Quijote and Café Riazor, so what sets Salinas apart from the rest? The elements. The name itself refers to salt (of the earth, from the sea, rimming your cocktail glass, etc.), but water, wind and fire are represented in the décor. If you can’t get the harried bartender’s attention in the front lounge, just relax next to the water wall, and pretend that sound is vino blanco pouring into a glass for you. If you’re looking for a summer breeze, opt for a table in the back garden under the retractable glass roof. When you need to shake off the winter chill, snag a blue velvet seat at a table by the fireplace. Chef Luis Bollo is serving goodies like Crujiente Mahones (flat bread with cheese, honey, olive oil and thyme, $7) and Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp with garlic, $13) to locals, but patrons from near and far will undoubtedly find their way to the well-appointed rooms of Salinas—even if they have to brave the elements to get there.
