Sam Bahri's Steakhouse
Sam Bahri’s new eponymous spot (guess she got sick of having restaurants, like her Dallas Jones BBQ, not named after her) is an American steakhouse with just the right dash of French-iness. The friendly neighborhood joint contains a large, central banquette table meant for communal dining, as well as steak, steak, and more, uh, steak. But that’s not the whole gustatory story here—hot and cold apps are predominantly sea-life-centered (jumbo lump crab cakes, $19; tuna tartare, $15; and raw bar options, $MP). Once you’re past them, though, it’s time to steer your eyes toward red meat options like Tournedos of Beef (filet mignon with foie gras, $45) and countless charbroiled steaks ($32-$45), all offered with delectable “finishing” sauces like bernaise and roquefort. Sides are pricey but hearty (like the duck-fat-finished “Very French” fries, $9) while desserts and wines are likewise tres Francais and solid. Sam Bahri’s offers great food and a great esprit de corps as well as solid proof that not every restaurant named after its owner belongs in Times Square.

Excellent

I don't know what Jimmy's problem is: sounds awfully personal . . . disgruntled former employee perhaps.

Anyway, about the restaurant. While it is off to a slow start, I think the word of mouth will do a lot for this place. I have been in the restaurant business for many years and am currently the Assistant General Manger at a New York Times 3 star restaurant here in the city. I found the level of service and hospitality excellent and Ms. Bahri's ”attitude” equally impressive. She is obviously very proud of the product she serves and well she should be. If that's arrogance, we need more restaurateurs who are so arrogant. When you're serving steak, knowing where it comes from and how it is butchered is of paramount concern.

The night I was there I had the ribeye, which was grilled to perfection, tender beyond belief, and (the touchstone of an excellent rib cut and a tribute to her butcher) sans gristle, without an inordinate amount of interior fat content. It was definitely a prime cut of beef, and for
only $40US, a great deal.

I, for one, hope she can make a go of it at a difficult location. With some good word of mouth and a New York Times review at some point along the way, I think she will become a destination restaurant. I will certainly be back.

Got beef?

Nothing could be further from the truth - Sam is one of the nicest most genuine small business owners I've ever met. She takes serious pride in her food and chance to serve her customers.

PB & J--Bite me!!!!

You obviously work for the company or something to that effect.
You are a loser just like that restaurant will be. Her reputation, and name is mud in this city already. I have eaten her food at the BBQ restaurant and what an attitude...
What do you know if the meat is Prime or Choice or Select so stick it in a dark hole. I am entitled to my opinion and who the hell are you to talk food in the first place. It cost me plenty when I was there with a party of four people...

Dear Jimmy

Evidently you're taste buds have become comfortable with less than quality beef. It is obvious that Prime Angus 28 day dry aged beef is something you know nothing about. Quality is not inexpensive. I found Sam to be proud of the product that is served, you must have mistaken that for arrogance. Like you're spelling you are wrong on so many levels.
