Satellite Lounge: Launched by ex-Luna Lounger Rob Sacher into remote orbit around Williamsburg’s drinking district, the Satellite Lounge has thus far remained pretty unexplored space. If you decide to touch down here, you’ll be immediately greeted by five movie-themed pinball machines...and that, dear drinker, is the highlight. The wall behind the bar is covered with a material resembling, essentially, a rolled-out disco ball, and the back is littered with old posters and advertisements; in fact, the whole thing plays like your stoner uncle’s rumpus room (but with indie rock instead of .38 Special). Because a basement flood knocked out the tap system, the dive-approved beer selection comes in bottles—including Heineken, Beck's, and Miller Genuine Draft—which, for $5, also gets you a well shot. So the drink deals are good enough to make you lose your launch, and you’ll always get a seat. Even on a Thursday night at 9:30, there was practically no one there, and the DJ was “hopefully coming.” Wow. Opening a bar: it’s not rocket science. |
