Saxon + Parole: A bar that makes their own beer, sure, but their own booze!? That's the case with Saxon + Parole, a whiskey bar par excellence, now distilling their own rye. The interior has a welcoming swankiness with leather booths, fake fireplaces (fauxerplaces?) and an aesthetic salute to turn-of-the-century horse-racing. Luckily, there’s no horse-meat on the menu, just a nice selection of “aquatic delights” and plenty of hearty meat options like the house-made pots ($8-9) and Guinness-glazed short ribs ($44 for two). Sure, it’s got solid apps and desserts, but you’re going to Saxon for the bourbon. Available neat, on the rocks, or in countless cocktails, including many of the atypically savory variety (such as the maple pecan Sazerac, $15) and others prepared with house leather-flavored (uh-huh) bitters. If bourbon isn’t your bag, there’s a well-appointed wine list that should make grape-loving friends happy. Either way, Saxon is a boozy delight—so drink up and prepare to hit the restroom like a race-horse.
