Seaport Café:
This outdoor eatery is the kind of place where tourists flock, convinced they’re getting a big, thick slab of genuine New York. It’s also the type of place where fanny-packers are sure to whip out a video camera in order to document the experience of eating burgers with their friends. Situated right on Pier 17, the Seaport Café could be a decent place to wile away a summer afternoon in the sun (live music is occasionally featured nearby), if it weren’t for the grating sounds of parents yelling at their kids to stand up straight while they wind their disposable cameras. Breezes coming off the East River and surprisingly affordable ($5) drinks are pluses, though, and the view of ships against the Financial District backdrop is surreally picturesque.
worked their for four summers. my advice is your better off bringing a sandwich from home if u want something edable, other then that atmosphere is great if ur just having drinks and enjoying the weather

So what happens now?
My friend and I were seated at Seaport Cafe ready to enjoy some happy hour drinks and perhaps some appetizers. Approx 15 minutes after being seated and not having anyone come to our table, we were forced to get the drinks at the bar ourselves. While we were enjoying our drinks, we noticed that other tables were being seated and helped within minutes. While we did not want to order food, none of the staff knew that fact, and after an hour of sitting there, not ONE single waiter came to our table. For a moment, we started wondering if we were invisible or perhaps on candid camera. Nope. So, after our anger built up enough, we flagged down a waitress and asked for the manager. She said there was not a manager there and asked us if she could help. We went on a rampage explaining what had happened and she apologized (in a fake, chipper voice) and then said to us "So, what happens now?" Are you kidding me? What kind of question is that? How about give us another round of drinks on the house. She was clearly a moron and had no idea how to treat customers. I could care less that she was "acting" sweet and surprised that this happened; if you aren't going to actually make up for it by giving us something for free, then please do not apologize. This was beyond unacceptable. I have never had such a ridiculous experience at a restaurant in my life.

Nightmare on the southstreet seaport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The food was ugly!!! I asked for veggies with my overly fried, burnt and frozen (crabcakes) which was fried in old and dirty oil!!! When i finally got my veggies they were greasy, mushy, and looked like someone picked it out of the trash can!! Not to mention the plastic silverware and the overpriced bill!!! We paid $72 for vomit on a plastic plate!!! I'm calling the health department and the better business bureau. In closing, I have one thing to say,THIS PLACE IS FISH BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extremely slow and inept waitstaff. Waiter insisted we try their excellent tartar sauce with our (frozen) fish -- he presented us with tiny packets of Kraft Creamy Tartar Sauce! Had to ask several times for water. Everything served on plastic plates with plastic silverware. WAY overpriced. They charged 15% MANDATORY gratuity on top of it all. I didn't even want to pay my bill let alone leave a tip. I guess that's the only way they get any gratuity based on the horrible level of service. I wish I could give it zero stars. What a waste of money.

I've worked there a few years ago as a bartender and I say: Don't go there !! The facilities are dirty and the owners treat the exploited staff like shit. NY has millions of better places.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this tourist trip. Seaport Cafe - remember the name....burn it into your brain so you never end up getting stuck eating here. The food is high school cafeteria bad, the service is almost nonexistent, and it's expensive as hell. We paid almost $50 for a simple lunch (no booze), and it was nasty. I've lived in NYC for 10 years and I can honestly say this is the worst meal (factoring in price vs. satisfaction), that i've ever had.

I was a hostess at Seaport Cafe during summer 2008 and September. Yes, they charged twice, because we had problem with a computure, but finally they solved the problem. About food - yes, any cafe can have not good dishes time to time, but 99% our food was really nice and we have many people who really love ourplace. I had a lunch whole summer over there, because they got really good cooks.

We ordered coconut fried shrimp which tasted and smelled like it had been cooked in suntan lotion. It was possibly the most disgusting shrimp I ever had. When we complained to the waitress she just stared at us with a glazed and confused look and did not make any effort to remove the item from the bill or offer us something else. Best bet is to stay far away. White Castle has beeter food.

The food was not good, especially for the money. The service was worse and the server lied to us. The manager gave us a song and dance rather than taking care of the problem and to top it all off they charged our credit card 2 times for the horrible lunch. My advice, don't eat there!!!

What's better then a cold beer in your hand, live music in your ears and a view of the East river. In summer this place is great because of the concerts and even though its packed with tourists, the place is worth checking out.
