It’s hard to believe that it took this long for Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Granato to open an East End branch of their New York City staple, Serafina. While the Lafayette Street location may no longer be the hot spot it once was, the Uptown locations of the Italian eatery are perennial meccas for the UES Wasps, Euros, and private school prepsters that summer in Gin Lane mansions. Taking over the space formerly occupied by Matto, East Hampton’s Serafina is a bright locale offering moderately priced eats with a side of people watching via an outdoor patio that seats 45. Besides the classic assortment of pizza, pasta, salads, fish and meats, there’s a roomy bar where you can pop in for some mid-afternoon sangria or a glass of wine from an extensive list of affordable picks. Plus, now everyone who couldn’t finagle a table at nearby Nick & Toni’s has a place to go.
