Bar Se7en 5ive: Here's a head-scratcher: How do you pick someone up at a bar…when there’s no bar? With Bar Se7en 5ive, David Rockwell (of W hotel fame) has created a sexy, spa-like vibe in the lobby of the Andaz on Wall St.—with 60s-inspired wood paneling and 50s-inspired graphic accents, all simmering beneath futuristic lighting. But yeah, about that no bar thing...clientele are instead invited to gather around one of many chunky onyx butcher-block serving stations, where bartenders work the room like they invited you over to their bachelor pad. Intimate? Friendly? You bet. Great for people watching too, as anyone not wearing black or gray will stand out like an exotic bird. But, again, no bar, (Did we mention that?) so all those old “bumping elbow” tricks go right out the window. Instead, come for the sublime drinks—including the Perfect Pearl Manhattan (Bulleit Bourbon, sweet and dry vermouth and a spritz of Lagavulin, $One Thr33)—and upscale bar nibbles served in jars. And bring your own company.
