SGTs:
Speakeasies may have been hot a few years ago, but SGTs is trendsetting as what may be the city’s first “speakloudly.” Open the fake exit in the fake hotel (the fauxtel?), Hotel Chantelle, to reveal a set of long, dark stairs baiting you to descend. At the bottom lies the hook: a dark dance hall slash dive bar with all the secrecy and intensity of Dr. Strangelove’s War Room. The bunker’s massive dance floor leaves no room for standing on the sidelines...which will probably suit you fine after getting loaded on champagne and absorbing the DJ’s relentlessly dance-worthy playlist of '90s faves. While military décor, wood banquettes and an ever-present atmosphere of clandestineness may give you the idea that SGT stands for “Sargent,” the deafening beats will prevent you from actually hearing anyone that might confirm that thought. That’s okay, though, this Sargent’s directives are clear—DANCE!
