Shachis: If you ever find yourself in the wasteland that is South Wiliamsburg under the BQE, do yourself a favor and pop into Shachi’s, where dining on a budget is not only easy but incredibly tasty. Skip the more expensive entrees, like skirt steak and pork chop, in favor of an arepa, a sandwich made with toasted cornmeal cake that is basically a Venezuelan version of a hamburger. For around $6 a pop, you can fill up on la peluda, the shredded beef and cheese version, or if you’re feeling more exotic, the pabellon, shredded beef with beans and sweet plaintains. Treat yourself to a pitcher of their sweet sangria ($24) or choose from a handful of Mexi beers, and you’ve got yourself a hot date that’s not too harsh on the old wallet. Open daily 8am-11pm.
