Shorty's:
The second locale of this burgeoning (say-it-with-me) authentic Philly cheesesteak franchise isn’t much different than its Hell’s Kitchen predecessor, but that’s just fine. The leader in the unofficial contest for the most accurate cheesesteak in town is the baby of an (again, say-it-with-me) authentic Philly guy, who actually claims it’s the only authentic 'steak in New York. Shorty’s believes fresh bread is of the utmost importance and thus all of their sandwiches—from the standard cheesesteak ($9) to more obscure creations like the honey chipotle steak ($11)—are piled high on made-in-Philadelphia/baked-in-New York rolls. Their steak sandwich and a beer is a thrifty steal at $12, and their craft beer menu is much better than you’d expect, with such tap offerings as Troegs Dead Reckoning and Green Flash West Coast IPA (beers, $6-8). The atmosphere here is as laid-back and chill as a good sports bar gets, and the kitchen is open late. With such great offerings, Shorty’s will surely continue to expand to fulfill tall orders for perfect cheesesteaks all across NYC.
