Sidewalk Café:
Sidewalk Café is pretty much the social epicenter of the East Village. Situated smack in the middle of Avenue A, the outside tables are absolutely geared for people-watching, so it’s a great place to bring out-of-towners for a beer and a bite. (Oh, and smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em.) The happy hour is a decent two-fer that goes until 8pm, and the grub is standard Americana: burgers, salads, quesadillas, etc. There’s a small club area behind the bar where local singer-songwriters perform every night for no cover, but there is a two-drink minimum. The best part is that they serve food until 5am Monday through Friday, and on the weekends keep the grub coming for 24 hours.
I come here all the time, one of those places where you know the food is going to be decent for cheap and they do offer a good happy hour, 2-4-1 until 8pm, even on the weekends. Try the black bean burger and cajun fries while sipping a beer of choice, sit outside and you’ll have the perfect view of people passing by.

Definitely a hit or miss place. Have been there a couple times and have had impeccable service and a great time or have had horrible service. Happy hour deals are the best and the food is pretty decent. The back of the cafe is a club and has a 2 drink minimum but no cover. Excellent place for casual dining and drinks.
