Slightly Oliver: For those of you not fluent in Cockney slang, “Slightly Oliver” (from Oliver Twist) translates to “a little drunk”—and you might find yourself majorly Oliver after downing the soon-to-be-famous concoctions at this turn-of-the-century apothecary-style cocktail spot. A giant in-house distillery extracts juices from fresh vegetables and spices, which contribute to the freshness of these tasty bevs. Try one of their unusual “food cocktails” like the NYC and the Orient (Thai-basil-infused gin, yellow tomato water, reduction of tangerine and peppercorn, and habanero bitters, $9) or go for a “punch” like Last Night in Paris (claro rum, spiced rum, fresh mint reduction, pink grapefruit juice, absinthe, house-blended spices and whiskey bitters, $7). For sustenance, they’ve got British classics like toasts with salt cod mash or chicken liver and foie gras ($8). All in all, this place is a winner—after one, two or 10 cocktails, we’re sure you’ll still be approaching the barkeep saying, “Please, sir, I want some more!”
