Socarrat Paella Bar Chelsea: Straight from a scene in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, this sexy Spanish wine bar boasts dark mood-lighting and exposed brick, readily luring in the likes of Javier Bardem and his horde of admirers. All right, so Javier isn’t a regular, but the after-office crowd will make you feel like there’s something to see here—without a ressie, you can wait hours to be seated (even during the week!). Luckily, you can take a seat at the bar while you wait, sip potent but fruity red sangria ($15), and partake in tapas like almonds and olives ($7) or pan-seared scallops ($10). There are eight different types of paellas ($24/per person), so vegetarians needn’t worry about a mound full of meat and fish obscuring their rice. Finish up the night with one of their many Spanish wines (20 reds, 13 whites, two roses, six sparkling—yowzah!) and you’ll be saying mas before you know it.
