Socialista:
CLOSED. It's ironic that Socialista, a swanky two-floor "restolounge" designed like a 1940s Cuban socialist outpost is the vision of former Bungalow 8 doorman, Armin Amiri, who controlled Bungalow's fascist entry guidelines. In going with the whole "Bungalow flashback" theme (peeling fluorescent walls, colonial architecture, ceiling fans), getting in here looks to be equally if not more challenging. Celebrities, socialites, and Page Six moles are the beneficiaries of this powerfully trendy spot pumping out world music. But, if you're one of the lucky ones, make sure to order some champagne or wine. The bottles are lowered to you in a bucket from a hole in the third-floor storage area. That's just cool.
How many bored doormen does it take to turn away guests from a empty door? Apparently four if you're working at the new lounge Socialista, which has "no connection" to the overpriced mediocre restaurant right below with the same name. Despite advertisments on the website for Cuban music onTuesday nights in the upstairs lounge (strange isn't is considering they're not connected), we were summilarily turned away from a door crowded only with bouncers after eating in the DEAD restaurant next door. Service was poor and the food was nothing outstanding, but the real insult is that no one seems to care that you're there despite spending a pretty penny. Poor old Fidel would be sick just thinking about, even without the Hep A that was potentially served up along with the cocktails last week. Owners should watch out that someone doesn't sneak up and change lettering on door to read "Capitalista."

With good reason, the door is ironclad as this spot has a top-notch crowd, delicious drinks (the Socialista cocktail is a wonderful cinnamony concoction) and is an overall great vibe.
