Soho Room: Because we’re not getting paid by the word, the temptation is to write “just another bar” and get on with our lives. But since you’re here (“here” meaning this review and thankfully not “here” at the lackluster Soho Room), you may want to know a little more about this tiny neighborhood bar. Fair enough…for starters, there’s not a lot of room. The brick-n'-wood bar (think modern Irish bar decor, without any Irish effluvia) is narrow and especially tight, so it’s crowded even when it’s not crowded. And the only real evidence of anything SoHo-esque lies in the occasional overdressed businessman or confused fashionista. If , however, you're looking for a sports oasis in this trendy nabe, you are at least in a little luck, as two flat screens air local contests or whatever ESPN happens to be showing. And we do have to give it up for the bartender we’ve encountered each time we’ve been here, a hilarious and vivacious gal gleefully slinging $4 Yuenglings in striking contrast to her uninspired environs. So, not a complete wash, but one visit will probably do. |
