Sol Y Sombra:
For those who learned Spanish from a talking Chihuahua on TV, the name of this bar translates to “Sun and Shade.” This Upper West Side tapas bar takes its name from the Spanish tradition at bullfights to separate the “Sombra” seats from the cheaper, “Sol” seats. This is an interesting concept to Americans who will actually pay more to sit in the sun at “al fresco” restaurants, which most likely translates to, “Sucker!” If you go to Sol Y Sombra, go hungry and enjoy a dinner of tapas along with drinks. Sol Y Sombra also happens to be a cocktail that consists of brandy and anisette, or of course there’s always sangria. Be sure to bring some cash, though, because a meal and drinks here can get pricey.
This place sucks big time. I saw roaches on the wall. The "tapas" were so small I needed 7 just to feel mildly full. The waitstaff was atrocious and the wine list was way over priced. There are much better dining deals and experiences nearby so keep walking - make that running, to some other place to spend your money.
