It’s ironic that Sophie was one of the most popular girls’ names of last year, because the last thing you’ll see in Sophie’s is a family outing. This dive is dark, has no sign, and borders on seedy. Which is exactly why it’s great: no frou frou drinks, no banquettes, and no credit cards accepted. Locals in their 20s and 30s inhabit the small bar on weekdays, but the B&Ts invade on the weekend. Sophie’s has a few tables, a small bar, and a pool table, so it’s a good place to come with a friend or two, as it can’t accommodate many more people than that. Bring a buck to play the kick-ass juke with icons ranging from Miles Davis to the Stones to Johnny Cash to Elvis. If you’re sick of “the scene,” head to Sophie’s ’cause you won’t find any ’tude here.
Can't find a place with better crowd, beer prices, and best of all that box. . . oh that box!

I was in Sophie's last year and I loved it! The pool table, the punchbag, the sickrooms. This is the BEST EVER BOOZER IN NYC - bar none!!! I've got a holiday booked and I'm gonna be there in 2 weeks time.

Sophie's is a taste of LES bars that are no longer. The prices are decent and the pool table competition is some of the fiercest in NYC.
