Spanky and Darla's
Spanky & Darla’s, the reincarnation of the bar formerly known as Cheap Shots, has taken great pains to change its image after an unfortunate snafu with the law and underage drinkers in early June. But the sign that greets you at the door blaming NYU kids and NYPD for the fact that “Anyone under 40 will be carded. No exceptions” is a bit of a killjoy. As is the big burly bounder who not only checks your ID, but runs it painstakingly through an ID scanner while seemingly attempting to peer into your soul—a lot to go through for a $3 pint of beer. While the décor inside is somewhat the same—neon beer signs and flatscreen TVs still light up the otherwise dark and divey bar—the black light air hockey table, the board games, and anything else that would dare attract the youngins has been eliminated. They want us all to know that this is a grown-up bar now, a sparsely populated one, but adults-only, nonetheless. Thankfully, though, the shots are still cheap. Two dollars, to be specific. Because, after all, even grown-ups like cheap shots.

Wow....Really?

I have been to Spanky & Darla's several times and have NEVER seen roaches coming out from under the bar nor have I seen any rats in the bathroom.the only thing I don't like is the placement of their new frozen margarita machine. It makes that area EXTREMELY HOT so I am no longer able to sit in my favorite spot, but other than that, great prices, great jukebox and for a dive bar it's cleaner than most, MUCH cleaner.

Awful!

What a terrible experience! I admit I was looking for a good dive, but a GOOD dive... My friends and I stopped into this place for a birthday, but that's one decision I wish I could take back. To put it briefly, the beer was rancid, there were roaches coming out from under the bar, and one of my friends even faced off with a mouse in the bathroom! Stay far away...
