Spotlight Live:
CLOSED. Faster than we could erase the stale memory of Factory Girl from our minds, it looks like Andy Warhol’s notorious “15 minutes of fame” prophesy is eerily coming to life. While reality television, blogging, and YouTube have made megastars out of virtually talentless nobodies (*cough,* Sanjaya), karaoke emporium Spotlight Live has just taken it the next level. So why not lay down a few tracks in the studio, then perform your tune with real backup singers, while the performance is broadcast on a Times Square jumbotron? Hey, the future is here. (But is the end nigh?) Although getting on stage may require the balls of Fantasia Barrino, downing a few of the outrageous “only in Times Square” libations are sure to do the trick. Burger: $10; Cocktail $12; Fame: no longer priceless.
On 7.26.08 3:00p.m, I attended a b-day party at Spotlight. A male, 185-190 lbs, 6 ft tall pushed me by my throat 5 ft back from where I was standing until I slipped in fell because he as drunk & I interrupted his lap dance. He then tried to strike me in my face. Only then a bouncer came to rescue me from the situation and pushed me against a column. A staff member made me walk across the floor barefoot because they did not want to look for my shoes or the guests I came with and over the glass. I had to walk across the entire event space and downstairs & outside barefoot to look for my friend who had my purse and a pair of my shoes. I am only 5’4”. A staff member of the club asked me to do I want to press charges and I told him yes. They told me that they had the man in custody; but the bouncers then told me that they let him go home. the staff then told me that in order for me to press charges I need to know how that man looked, but they refused to let me see and identify him before letting him go home. In addition, they let him enter the venue wearing a hat. In a dark space, no one is identifiable with a hat on. management didnt complete incident report or obtain the attackers name. No one called the police!!! I was badly hurt, with a bruised lip, scratches, back pain from the fall in the club, neck pain, ankle pain, and pain in my wrist. Management didnt following a proper protocol for altercations and injury on the property. The staff at this venue did not respond quickly. The lapse of time between being able to leave the back stairwell the staff had me in, they gave 30 minutes for my attacker to leave and go home without obtaining even his name. In addition, without my purse, I had no phone to call the police and they did not provide me with a way to call the police even after I told them that I wanted to file a police report.

The email sent out said the event was supposed to start at 10. We were standing outside in a line until 11. No one from the venue told us anything about why it was late, the line or anything. Maybe because when it started to rain they went inside and let us stand out in the rain. The head body guard (white guy with braids) was rude and inconsiderate. He was bossing people around but never addressed the crowd to inform them of what was going on.
once they line started the brain surgeon at the door checking the list said I was not on it. Someone else had to come and help me out and my name was on the list but dude could not spell. He was about to send me home after standing in the rain for an hour because he can't spell.
the venue was nice inside but i wont go again unless there is a different staff.

I have lived in the city for ten years, so I am certainly not a tourist. I have been back twice with big groups of girls. We have had the best time!!!!!

I attended the launch party and it's certainly a cool concept. I'm not sure who the target audience is though. Will it attract only tourists? Only time will tell..

I was here last week and this place is so fun. The tables all have screens so you can IM other tables and vote on the performances. After a few cocktails i got up to sing and even sounded good with the back up singers. I am going back this weekend for sure!!!
