St. Vitus: For all you New Yorkers who thought metal-heads never left their parents' basements, this just in: the heavy-hitters are inside city limits—finally—and they are ready to rock. Long-haired, pale dudes are swarming Greenpoint club St. Vitus like it's the only respectable thrasher music venue in the city. And that's because it is. But before you conjure up an unsavory mental picture, know that this new space is among the classiest, best-executed clubs in the hood. You heard right—ingenious touches like dried roses hanging from the ceiling, bathrooms tiled top-to-bottom in black, and, of course, the resident skeleton, keep things authentic. Start with a cocktail in the dimly-lit, sleek-lined front room (try the signature Saint Vitus, made with whisky, homemade honey simple, freshly squeezed lemon and Nero D'avola wine) then proceed back for an evening of head-banging to a consistent lineup of hard-rock outfits. Finally, replenish lost calories with savory bites like Grilled Cheese with Camembert, Quince and Almond. Whatever your radio is currently dialed to, a night of no-gimmicks music, the grateful fans who love it, and an excuse to pull out the old AC/DC tee means at least the decision to show up won't be hard.
