STK Rooftop: If this MPD ground-level steakhouse's moniker stands for STEAK, its newly-opened rooftop offshoot might just be short for STUCK (up). No, its trendy vibe is not for everyone, but those seeking a Vegas-style scene may be wooed by the intense hostesses, ambient background music and high-priced cocktail menu. While the restaurant has touted itself as "feminine", the roof patio must in turn be geared toward the boys—the lounge-y gray couches and black-and-blue geometric design scheme screams Midtown bachelor pad. The cocktails, on the other hand, were most definitely designed with the ladies (who lunch?) in mind—the "Strawberry Cobbler" touts a graham-cracker rim. Avoid a sugar crash with the spicy Green Intensity (Absolut vodka, serrano chili, lime juice and basil leaves, $16) or go safe with a scotch ($15-50). The food menu fares well with bar bites (lobster mini rolls, $18; tuna taquitos, $16), but the pita strips with pesto dip that are offered off-menu—gratis—are the most enticing. Sure, the prices are steep and the fare is only fair, but a birds-eye view of the Highline and a scene for those looking to be seen make this spot worthwhile for some.
