Strawberry's Sports Grill: Darryl Strawberry was always the most tasty-sounding player, so it’s not surprise the popular ex Met now has a sports bar and grill. A towering home run away from Citi Field in Douglaston, Queens, Strawberry’s focuses on BBQ and other comfort foods in a family-friendly atmosphere. Now, while a restaurant named after a sports hero might seem gimmicky, the food is surprisingly solid, with a massive menu of adventurous pub grub such as crawfish hushpuppies ($8.95), pecan-crusted cod ($18.95), and burgers named after Mets’ and Yankees’ championship seasons. Admittedly though, there are some gimmicks, as the joint is loaded with team memorabilia, tons from the Straw’s own career, including his former Shea Stadium locker. But with plenty of TVs and even more drinking options like the Strawberry Mojita (all cocktails, $9), this is a place you can easily hunker down for the full nine innings.
