Studio XXI:
Okay so it may not be the real deal, but sitting on the back of a banquette in Studio XXI is closer to partying in a recording studio than belting out old Mariah Carey jams in your shower. In this rather small celeb-friendly second-floor lounge, there’s sound-proofing foam behind the DJ, red equalizer lights around the bar and disc-like overhead lighting fixtures evocative of cymbals. Framed gold records hang on one wall for such legends as Michael Jackson and The Doors drive the theme home. These artists, plus crowd pleasers ranging from Usher to Rod Stewart, are just what the older party-goers need to set down their pricey cocktails (bottle service starts at $350) and shake it like they’re the hottest new pop star on the scene. But everyone would be wise to save the more risqué moves for when the curtains are drawn, as the lights from the Trader Joe’s across the street probably aren’t the most flattering.
