If it looks like a Chelsea bar, and quacks like a Chelsea bar, then it must be a Chelsea bar, right? Wrong. If it’s located on the Upper West Side, then it’s Suite. Though this uptown lounge has a downtown feel to it, the mix of Columbia students and local residents makes clear that this is one lively neighborhood bar. Never packed, it’s an ideal place to meet someone for a drink—or many drinks if it’s Monday, when happy hour lasts all night. Gays and lesbians mix freely for Thursday’s karaoke night and Wednesday’s fun and games night. See, you don’t have to head downtown to hear awful covers of your favorite songs. This is the biggest snooze-fest of the NYC gay bar scene. Imagine countless alienated Columbia trust-fund bubbies X-ed out of their minds into a totally self-indulgent coma and you have the basic vibe. Oh, did I mention the self-hating gay vibe in which latent homophobia from Harlem is mixed with upper west side Angst to form a witch's brew of self loathing unique to NYC? Well, if you want to enjoy an extra six months with your therapist, then this dive is definitely for you.

To straighten out some details: Wednesday is typically the busiest night (Dollar Drafts) and Saturdays during the daytime see the bar fill with Columbia and Fordham students taking advantage of the best excuse to get drunk by 2pm in the city- $17, all you can eat wings, all you can eat beer, 12-5.
