Taj
Taj’s designers could’ve easily used the obscuring crystal-beaded curtains to bait passersby, but it turns out the interior is even more alluring. In the foyer a grand chandelier and tiled walls build anticipation, while a ready-to-serve hostess and coat check girl greet you upon arrival. Refined $13 cocktails, like Indian Rose and Budina, plus a delicate blend of Indian, French, and American flavors in dishes like the coriander-infused chicken breast, fill the place with an array of Manolos and Jimmy Choos, but the environment keeps things surprisingly relaxed. Perhaps it’s the pillow piles on soft benches, or sandstone Buddhas on altar-esque shelves, or glowing silk lanterns that hover, like massive megaphones, over otherwise private booths. An enchanting date spot with house/lounge beats or live jazz-infused music on weeknights, Taj is “Mahal” that.

I had my 28th b day party here on Oct 4th and I would like to say, Troy you did not do what you agreed to do for me on my b day. When i got there everything was cool at first, they took my cake and put it in the back and it was all good. I had a very large guestlist so this promoter guy troy had told me if I have more than 20 guests I will get a complimentry bottle of champagne on them. They orginally gave me a table so it was cool. But as the night started to get a little busy, they kept moving me from table to table, they weren't letting all of my guests in on my list(telling my guests there is no list under my name). Making them wait on this loooong line. They finally told me I had to give up my table because (this guy troy) told the waitress I was purchasing a $700 bottle package for my bday(which was absolutely bulllshtt!!!). Then I was getting realllly mad cause they stopped letting my guests in and I had to forfit my table because i didnt spend $700 on a package. They are all full of sht!!!!!Although I never got to cut my cake, My guests and I (who they actually let in) still had fun regardless of the maddness. Overall, Never again at this Taj spot for a B day Because the promoter man Troy is full of it!!

I came here last Friday for dinner and drinks and it was simply fabulous. The food was tasty and we had some specialty cocktails. I recommend the lamb kebobs btw. We had a cute waiter who took care of us and convinced us to stay for their late-night lounge. The DJ was great and the bartender was even cuter then the server! all in all, for a good change of pace from the usual 27th street, Taj provided a fun night.

Sometimes the hassle is worth it. Sometimes it's not. Negative on Taj. Rule #1 at Taj: wait to be checked in at the door, pay your cover or tell them whose list you are on. We were there for Tony's party so we got ugly martini glass stamps and moved on to Step 2 - the curtain. Bouncer says we can't come in with coats despite the fact that we are with a big party and have an area reserved...he pushes us to the coat check. Rule #2: must check your coats. Now that we're ready to move on, we have a sweaty, crowded and faux-exclusive scene to endure before we get to one of the tables we're sitting at. One of our group sat at a table next to our reserved section. Rule #3 - do not sit there! Before leaving, we were told that to retreive coats you have to go to a different window than the "check-in" window - that's Rule #4. Then to exit - bouncer says we can't leave through the door we entered and were directed to a shady back alley door that eventually filered into 21st street. That was Rule #5. And Rule #6? once we got onto the sidewalk the bouncers outside told us to keep moving because we were blocking the entrance!! They even have rules for the public sidewalks outside that they don't own. This place was pretty much awful and choc-full-o-wannabes and D-listers...I will not be returning.
