Tavern on the Green:
Like the romantic horse-drawn carriage ride around Central Park, Tavern on the Green is corny, expensive as hell, and totally worth the experience, at least once. The waiters are dressed in pastel-colored sports jackets that look like the kind worn in a South Florida retirement community, the food is fine but nothing special, and the meticulously carved hedges of King Kong and zoo animals are confounding. Only in New York. In the summer, there’s twice as much seating, most of it on the outdoor patio on a hill in Central Park. It’s not a bar scene at all, but that doesn’t mean a group of friends couldn’t get a table, soak up the unique and hilarious scene, and throw quite a few back. Reservations strongly recommended.
I stood in the rain from 9pm until 1pm on Halloween b/c they over sold thousands of tickets!

This was a complete rip off (and I had platinum tickets). We did not get in from the cold until almost 11. The food was awful, the service was awful, the organizers were awful and rude, people were smoking illegally, the bar had no beer... I cannot express how bad a night it was.

Didn't even get inside until midnight. Place was packed and felt like a cheap club in the meat packing district. Food was scarce and awful. The people working were rude and unprofessional. I want my money back.

We went to the Tavern for New Years under the impression that it would be a Tavern on the Green function, it was not!!! They had rented the resturant to a group of what seemed like young men trying to make a dollar. Tickets were oversold the food was scant and unedible, the line took us an hour and a half to get in and was so overpacked we could not get a drink. The fire department showed up and the chief was standing in front of us talking about shutting the party down. He could not get across the dance floor to get to an exit and was not happy. We were anticipating a Tavern on the Green experience and did not get one.

Do not have a party here - I was going to have my wedding here but they promised me something in order to sell me on the room, and once I signed my contract they refused to honor their word and refused to admit that their contract was worded in a slippery way so they could easily get out of that promise. And even though it was going to ruin my wedding, they didn't care at all. I'm not a "bridezilla", either, just a smart consumer who got screwed by a place I probably should have tried to avoid in the first place.

The view of the park while you eat is probably the only thing of value that you won't have to pay for.

If you are looking for a beautifully located restaurant, you got it. Since it is in Central Park, the three or four dining rooms they have all have large glass windows, and all tend to be decorated well. The drinks are expenisve, so is the food, and and doesn't leave you feeling like you got you money's worth.
