Explaining TBD Lounge is a bit confusing, but its unique premise is exactly what makes it one of the hottest spots in NYC. This sometimes-lounge (open only on weekends) is nestled within Gild Hall’s all-the-time lounge and Library Bar, and only goes by TBD for private parties and weekend hours. TBD is “The Black Door” on the North side of the newest Thompson hotel, where patrons enter after passing doorman examination: Louboutins, Gucci and/or a custom-tailored suit should get you inside. TBD is also “to be determined,” perhaps alluding to which celebs you’ll run into that night (Beyonce and Jay-Z are regular possibilities). And with a crowd like that, drinks don’t come cheap—we recommend stuffing your wallet fatter than before the market crash and remembering that you’re paying for the company as much as the vodka. The pop-up is run by Kevin O'Gilvie, founder of Chill Marketing (a trendy downtown marketing troupe) and you’ve got to be on their list to even learn about parties happening at TBD. It’s an exclusive affair, but if you’re one of the chosen few who get to party TBD-style, your place on the social ladder is already determined: sky-high.
