Tenth Rail: A swank spot in a miasma of industrial buildings and dive bars, Tenth Rail is slightly unfocused conceptually, but nice enough that you won’t care. There’s a loungey feel with exposed brick, puffy booths and cushy barstools, but with enough TVs that it can pass for a classy sports bar in a pinch. Likewise, with plenty of fancy cocktails, 16 solid-though-not-mindblowing beers on tap (Brooklyn’s Black Chocolate Stout being the best of the bunch) and oodles of wine, no one should have a problem finding a tipple to topple. Tenth Rail has an adventurous menu of modern American food such as the steamed pork dumpling basket ($10), goat cheese and ricotta fritters ($10), and a variety of burgers with a twist (Coal Train Buffalo Burger with secret sauce, $13). Best of all, the crowd is attractive and well-behaved, which may not sound like resounding praise, but it’s a nice change of pace in a part of town most known for lushes downing pitchers of beer and throwing up on the sidewalks.
