TEQA: Situated among one too many dive bars and bound to be overlooked by one too many Blackberry-addicted 20-somethings, Teqa provides an upscale alternative for Murray Hillers tired of the same-old scene. Just be careful not to overdress, literally, as the numerous light fixtures (including live flames) that give the bar it’s sexy vibe, also keep the room muy caliente. Derek Jeter's personal chef Lisa Schoen hits a home run with the fare, offering 8 varieties of tacos ($12 for 3) ranging from Veggie to Beer Battered Shrimp, and a mix of sandwiches ($14), apps ($9) and sides ($8). Yep, $14 is as pricey as it gets here, so you can save some pesos for the cocktails, with innovative margaritas leading the charge (try the Hibiscus & Rose Margarita—hibiscus-infused tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime, rosewater mist, hibiscus salt ($11)). Add those to a selection of tequila cocktails, spiked beers (like an “Evil” Michelada that’s sinfully good) and punch bowls for the sharing, and you may be likely to live up to the old adage—one tequila, two tequila, three tequila...floor?
