The 13th Step:
You need less than five minutes in this East Village dive to see why some of their frat-head patrons are destined for a 12-step program. No one makes a secret of the fact that they are here to booze, and the bar obliges with beer pong, shot specials and plenty of space to hit the sauce. The spot is essentially an over-sized version of Jake's Dilemma, the Upper West Side haunt owned by the same folks. Don't know Jake's? Well perhaps you’ve stumbled out of some of their other haunts, Down the Hatch or Off the Wagon to name a few. Don't expect fancy cocktails—$6 will get you a Stella or a white wine poured from a magnum. A selection of bar food is available, most of it ringing up at less than $10. The bar takes its name from slang used in the Alcoholic's Anonymous program—the 13th Step is coming on to your sponsor. Inappropriate sexual advances aren't just the joke of the spot's name…they're this crowd's second favorite sport, right after beer pong.
