The Anchored Inn: After the recent opening of The Drink, nautical-themed bars seem to be surfacing all over Williamsburg. The Anchored Inn, however, is more rock den than boat bar, in an area so deserted, you’d have to be a brave street-farer to find it. Apart from a few images of sailboats and a 50s-style diver hanging from the ceiling, the only thing piratey about the décor is that everything looks stolen—black walls are covered with arbitrary paintings of leopards, koalas, clowns, dogs playing pool and Kim Jong Il, and shelves are covered in knickknacks ranging from a crocodile jaw to a longhorn skull. Don’t let the heavy metal music, multiple tattooed sleeves and bartenders claiming that their specials are plain ol’ beer and shots fool you, as off-menu specials such as homemade chili pepper mescal, vanilla-peach bourbon and lemon-basil gin are the bar’s buried treasure. Drop anchor with other patrons from the nearby Acheron Rock Venue and order up the house favorite—a $5 can of beer and shot special, with optional $1 pickle backs (homemade spicy pickle juice chasers).
