The Archive: Ironically, our trip through The Archive is not something really worth looking back on. Sure, the Murray Hill pub has a classic design sense, with slate-blue walls, tufted burgundy leather banquettes and plentiful dark wood, giving it a refined, masculine, library-ish feel. But this is Murray Hill, so how classy can it really be? Sure enough, things aren’t completely as they seem...the cocktail list appears promising, but a more in-depth examination turns up pretty much just standards: your old-fashioned, your Manhattan, your margarita (yawn). Though bevvies are made with liquors on the craft-spirits end (Knob Creek, Makers Mark), the drink-slingers here are far from mixologists, and the slapped-together concoctions don’t merit their $12 price. As an after-work spot, it's serviceable—at least there’s no dank beer smell, blaring TV or deafening nineties-hits soundtrack. But, the crowd clears out on the early side, as do we. Having archived our experience here, a revisit seems unnecessary. |
