The Black Swan:
“Conveniently” located between two stops on the G-train, this refined gastropub is a welcome addition to a neighborhood with few such spots (i.e. the block’s former main attraction was a giant K.F.C.). Resembling something you’d more likely find in nearby Clinton Hill or Fort Greene, the long, narrow space has exposed brick and black walls, with a bar up front that proves a popular perch for longtime locals and the newbies desperate for a hip locale to match their luxury condos. Though they offer a full bar, sip on a glass of organic wine or sample a variety of fairly priced brews (a Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissen only sets you back $6). To coat your stomach, take a seat at one of the butcher-paper-covered dining tables in the larger back area, where they offer simple fare like burgers, fried oysters and charcuterie courtesy of Cynthia Walker (of Brown Betty renown). With a small back patio offering bench seating and four shaded tables, one thing is certain—this new Swan is no ugly duckling.
