The Clerkenwell:
Named as a tribute to the neighborhood in mother England that spawned other like-minded pubs, the Clerkenwell is helping the LES clean up and grow up into a well rounded, refined place. The neighborhood bar pays as much attention to its culinary offerings, with a menu full of English favorites, as it does to its choice selection of premium English brews. Its weekend brunch is its crown jewel, filled with all types of meat, egg, and cheese concoctions. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients, not to mention the sizable morning-after potions like Bloody Marys and mimosas. The atmosphere here is quiet, but not stuffy, and the price range remains in reach of the non-yuppie.
I cannot recommend this place enough - we went for dinner, although having read the reviews above, I will definitely be checking out the brunch too! The Yorkshire 'Toad in the Hole' was fantastic, a light buttery batter mixture, and hearty Cumberland sausages, with a thick rich onion gravy. Classic British food without the Irish bar connotations!

NYC has so many bars that all look the same but this place is unique; intimate and chic. Great food, good beers, excellent place to take a date. I'd travel there from LA for the breakfast!

At last, a bit of London in NYC! I've been looking for a place that serves a decent sunday roast (not this irish bar fare). I've now found one. Real tender cut of lamb and great roast parsnips, roast potatoes, carrots and gravy. The chef even came out of the kitchen to see how everything was. Take that Gordon Ramsey!! A taste of home without the miserable weather.
