The Counting Room:
One thing easy to count is the amount of new bars popping up on Berry St. near Williamsburg’s McCarren Park. As if the census mandated more bar licenses in this land-o-hipster, The Counting Room has arrived to help fill the quota with two floors of elegant, reclaimed mixed wood and long picnic tables. The main level is dedicated to wine served by the glass ($8-$11), half bottle ($16-$25) or bottle ($25-$45), and features retractable garage doors to give it an open-air atmosphere for summer months. They offer a simple, light menu to keep you on your feet and flirting and the assorted meat board ($22) does the trick on a date. Down below, you’ll find an industrial cocktail cellar ideal for private events, where you can knock back surprisingly swanky cocktails (do your body good with the Milk Punch: Francet Cognac, Appleton Estate Reserve Rum, Milk, Coconut Water and Vanilla). Just count your money before you go—those $10 cocktails can add up fast!
